Why Study Geography?

Studying A Level Geography gives you the opportunity to explore the world around you and understand how physical and human systems interact to shape our planet. You’ll investigate major global issues like climate change, geopolitics, and globalisation, while building valuable skills. Geography helps you become an informed, thoughtful global citizen ready to make a difference.

Sample Course Content:

Tectonic Processes, Coasts, Water Insecurity, The Carbon Cycle, Globalisation, Regeneration, Geopolitics, and migration. 

In addition, the 4000 word Independent Investigation encourages students to conduct fieldwork on a topic of their choice, and is crucial for developing research skills and demonstrating practical geographical knowledge.

Career Value:

Geography connects the natural and human worlds, blending science and the arts. It develops broad-minded thinkers with valuable skills in data collection, analysis, and communication. Employers value Geography students for their ability to make informed decisions using real-world information, making it a highly transferable and respected subject.

A Level Geography is a highly regarded academic discipline. It combines well with other subjects such as the Sciences, Mathematics, Economics, History, Politics, and Sociology and can be useful in a host of jobs, e.g. Environmental Engineering, Conservation, Town Planning, Disaster Management, Climatology and the Professional Services.

Enrichment Opportunities:

The Geography A Level includes two field trips investigating human and physical landscapes. Additionally, students will conduct fieldwork on a chosen area of Geography that interests them.  There is no other A Level that offers this level of independent work, and is a fantastic talking point at both university and career interviews.
