At The Kingston Academy we uphold and teach pupils about fundamental British Values as part of our wider commitment to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of our young people. We recognise and celebrate our community of people from diverse cultures, communities and countries. The success and harmony of this community is underpinned by enduring Fundamental British values including:
Democracy
The rule of law
Individual liberty
Mutual respect & tolerance
These values are explicitly taught to our young people through specialist Respect (PSHE) lessons as well as through the Pastoral and Personal Development curriculum that is delivered through form-time and assemblies.
Staff are trained to provide discussion opportunities on questions about (for example) misogyny and prejudice & disrimination, and to challenge ideas and views that are at odds with tolerance and individual freedom.
Through these curricula (alongside our behaviour values of Ready, Respectful and Safe), we teach students to become self-sufficient, responsible, resilient and empathetic citizens with a clear understanding of UK public life and how to participate in it.
As from 2022/2023, the school has committed to applying for the Race Charter Mark, which would recognise our work entrenching conscious equality for all groups within our student and staff bodies.
