Vision for the Department

Together to embed a passion of life long participation in physical activity and sport through the development of practical and life skills that leads to physical, mental and social well being.  

We develop -

Knowledgeable students through an exciting ,varied curriculum and extracurricular programme who can independently make choices to enhance their own physical, mental and social well being.         

We pursue -

Achievement through academic PE pathways and a rich school sport programme that allows students the opportunity to develop sporting careers through employment or practical participation.

KS3 Curriculum

Core sport rotations: football, table tennis, badminton, netball or tag rugby, athletics, striking and fielding (rounders, cricket or softball)

TKA also operates a comprehensive programme of competitive sport.

 

YEAR 7

Invasion Games (Football, Rugby & Netball) and Net Games (Badminton and Table Tennis) Within each sport pupils will develop their use of physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance. Some skills will cross over (throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, running and bounding). They will also learn the rules and regulations of each sport, implementing them when in competition. Pupils will learn and understand some of the principles of how to attack and defend within a team. Students will begin to engage in basic teamwork (invasion games) and develop their independent decision making (net games).

Striking/Fielding Games and Athletics (Cricket, (Rounders, Softball and Sprinting/ Running Events and Throwing Events)

Students will develop their physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance. Some skills will cross over (throwing, catching, batting, bowling and fielding). Students will further enhance their team play and their ability to outwit an opponent.

Students will develop the motivation and skills to achieve their personal best through a range of athletic events. Students will continue to learn the rules and regulations within each sport and the safety elements of certain athletic events.

 

YEAR 8

Invasion Games (Football, Rugby & Netball) Net Games (Badminton and Table Tennis)

Within each sport pupils will consolidate their use of physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance. These skills will be scrutinised within more challenging opposed practices. Some skills will cross over for each sport (throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, running and bounding). Pupils will further their understanding of some of the principles of attack and defence within a team and learn how to implement them within certain situations. Pupils will be able to explore some of the different tactics and strategies that can be used to outwit their opponent. Students will begin to develop their ability to analyse a performance through peer and self-observation.

Striking/Fielding Games and Athletics (Cricket, (Rounders, Softball and Sprinting/ Running Events and Throwing Events)

Students will consolidate their physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance.

These skills will be scrutinised within more challenging opposed practices. Some skills will cross over (throwing, catching, batting, bowling and fielding). Students will further enhance their team play and their ability to outwit an opponent.

Students will use self-motivation and goal setting to achieve their personal best through a range of athletic events. Students will develop tactical strategies to outwit opponents during striking and fielding games. Students will begin to develop their ability to analyse a performance through peer and self-observation during the athletic events.

 

 

YEAR 9

Invasion Games (Football, Rugby & Netball) and Net Games (Badminton and Table Tennis)

Within each sport, pupils will rehearse and refine their use of physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance. These skills will be scrutinised within more situations that are competitive. Some skills will cross over for each sport (throwing, catching, kicking, jumping, running and bounding). Pupils will further implement the principles of attack and defence within a team and learn how to create new strategies to outwit an opponent.

Pupils will begin to develop their leadership skills through officiating and coaching.

Striking/Fielding Games and Athletics (Cricket, (Rounders, Softball and Sprinting/ Running Events and Throwing Events)

Students will rehearse and refine their physical and social skills within skill based practice and performance. These skills will be scrutinised within situations that are more competitive. Some skills will cross over (throwing, catching, batting, bowling and fielding). Students will create their own strategies to outwit an opponent.

Students will develop their officiating skills during different athletic events. Students will use their ability to analyse a performance through peer and self-observation during the athletic events to help bring about improvements within their personal best performance.

  • School trips to professional sporting events
  • Whole school sports day
  • Broad range of sporting clubs
  • School Dragon Boat and Paddle Boards
