On Wednesday, Carnegie-longlisted & Spark-shortlisted author Nathanael Lessore came to speak to Year 8 pupils about his hilarious & heartfelt book ‘Steady for This’. He shared some writing tips about how to structure a story and some embarrassing anecdotes of his own that inspired similar scenes in his book.
‘I think Nathanael Lessore did a good job for an author who is quite new. I wasn’t bored by the speech and he managed to keep us entertained while bringing out his point and explaining his motivations. I can relate to what he was saying about how stories/movies have to have openings, plots, rising tension etc. He also asked us questions which made us more engaged and interested, showed us different writing techniques, talked about his experience, encouraged us to follow him, gave tips on writing and gave in-depth answers to our questions.’
